Organic Foods are More Nutritious

Almost everyone who has ever selected their fruits and vegetable from the organic section probably knew they were doing something good for their health and the environment.  Yet there are opinions that claim that commercially grown foods are just as nutritious.

The British Journal of Nutrition recently published research that disputes the notion that organic foods are essentially not healthier than conventional foods. After reviewing 343 studies on the topic, researchers in the U.S. and Europe concluded that Organic crops and Organic-crop based foods contain higher concentrations of antioxidants and other nutrients than conventionally grown foods.

At the same time, the scientists found that conventional foods contained considerable concentrations of residual pesticides, the toxic metal cadmium, and other toxins. "This shows clearly that organically grown fruits, vegetables, seeds and grains deliver tangible nutrition and food safety," said the study co-author Charles Benbrook, a researcher at Washington State University.
